One of the major concerns of rideshare drivers is: does Uber take out taxes? The answer is that neither Uber or Lyft automatically withhold taxes.

This means that no matter if you drive part time, full time or as a temporary job, you have to report your income to the IRS and pay taxes to all your earnings including:

  • Tips
  • Referrals
  • Bonuses and incentives

The self-employment tax you must pay refers to:

  • Medicare: You'll pay the 2.9 percent Medicare tax.
  • Social Security: For 2020 it was 12.4% for Social Security and applied to the first $137,700 of earnings.

Basically there are 3 steps and we will describe them below:

When Are Estimated Taxes Due 2021
