How Does Driving With Blacklane Work?

Driving with the chauffeur service you can make money providing three main kinds of Blacklane rides.

Transfer And Airport Rides

Blacklane provides airport transfers from the main airports around the world including Los Angeles International airport, Las Vegas Airport, SFO and more.

Other transfer rides include scheduled rides in which you pick up the guests at one location and drop them off at another one.

Hourly Rides

Drivers can be booked by the hour. Hourly reservations will not have a defined dropoff location, but will instead have a stated time length. You pick up the visitor at a designated place and transport them to their destination within the time frame and miles specified inside your business area.

Intercity Rides or Long Distance Rides

As a Blacklane driver, you will earn a commission for every ride you give. The amount of the commission will vary depending on the length and distance of the ride.

Your earnings include any additional services that are mandatory (such as waiting time or baggage assistance).

While the Blacklane app doesn't have an in-app tipping feature, Blacklane drivers also have the opportunity to earn tips from passengers.

So, how much can you expect to earn as a Blacklane driver? The answer is: it depends! How much you earn will depend on factors such as how often you drive, what times of day you drive, and where you drive. That being said, we have found that the average Blacklane driver earns about $30 per hour.

How Does The Auction System Work?

Very similarly to Citizenshipper, Blacklane has an auction system. Ride offers are available through the BL Chauffeur app, as well as the Blacklane online Partner Portal.

Keep in mind that the new app no longer sends out alerts when rides are available. The fare for the ride will start low and rise until a driver accepts it.

You may accept the ones that meet your schedule and objectives.

What you see is what you get when it comes to transportation rates. There will be no deductions for taxes or fees, and any extra wait time or distance will be paid.

Blacklane Car List

Chauffeurs on the blacklane platform, like rideshare drivers, must have a qualifying vehicle in order to become a driver.

Each city has its own regulations for vehicles, and Blacklane will let you know what they are after you sign up to drive.

Basically, vehicles must be clean, in excellent condition, and match the service class requested.

All the vehicles on the platform have black exterior. You should be able to maintain a high level of service and comfort for riders at all times. Bottled water, WiFi, and a multi-charger cable compatible with Apple Lightning, Micro USB, and USB Type C must always be available. Additionally, guests appreciate having access to a recent English-language newspaper, Kleenex, and an umbrella in case it rains during their stay.

In addition, very similarly to Uber vehicle requirements there is an age limit for the vehicle. On the platform vehicles are new. Typically the model year requirement is 2 or 4 years old.

Depending on your vehicle, you will be eligible for one of Blacklane's three service levels. As an example, see below for a description of each level as well as some qualifying cars.

Business Class

Business class vehicles are midsize luxury vehicles like Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Cadillac XTS or similar. They fit max. 3 passengers and max. 2 luggage.

Business Van/SUV

Business Vans or Suvs are vehicles with a higher capacity. They can fit up to 5 passengers and max 5 luggage. Some examples of vehicles in this category include: Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, Toyota Alphard or similar.

First Class

First class cars are luxury sedans. Commun vehicles on this category include: Mercedes-Benz EQS, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 or similar

Carbon Neutral

Dr. Jens Wohltorf, Blacklane CEO and Co-founder said "As a travel and transportation company, Blacklane has a special obligation to protect not only people, but also the planet." In some cities you can also choose to ride with top-tier electric vehicles.

💡 PRO TIP: Upgrades from Business Class to vans may need the permission of the luxury service.

How to Apply

If you meet the requirements above, you can apply for your new driving job.

To become a Blacklane driver, you need to fill out a short online form. This is quite similar to the gig worker apps you may already be acquainted with.

First, create an account by choosing your country and city.

At this point you can verify that you have all the vehicle requirements and paper requirements for your city.

Before starting the application process, make sure you have all of your documentation and requirements in order. You will need to upload some required documents and this will considerably speed up the registration procedure.

After successfully completing the mandatory background check, you must complete the online training in order to start earning money as a chauffeur driver.

The online training provides all of the knowledge a driver needs to know to accomplish their job successfully.

Once you are approved you can start bidding on driving jobs.

Blacklane Limo Drivers vs Uber Black Drivers

The drivers who work for Uber Black and those who work for Blacklane are quite different from one another.

To begin, if you are new to the Uber platform, you should be aware that, unlike UberX drivers, Uber Black drivers are professionals.

They present themselves in a professional manner, yet their primary duty often consists of little more than transporting the passenger from point A to point B.

Blacklane drivers are trained professionals who possess valid chauffeur licenses from the cities in which they operate.

They present themselves in a sophisticated manner and will meet you wherever it is that you need them to do so. Whether they wait for you in the vehicle or meet you at the baggage claim at the airport, all options are acceptable.

The level of service that passengers of Blacklane demand from their drivers is comparable to that of a luxury chauffeur.

Blacklane Driver vs Lyft Lux Driver

When it comes to choosing a gig job, there are a lot of factors to consider. Pay, required skills, and benefits are all important considerations.

But what about the quality of the driver job? You might be wondering whether being a Blacklane driver or a Lyft Lux driver is the better option.

For both services you are required to have a high-end vehicle and you must be an experienced driver. However, there are some key differences to keep in mind. For one thing, Blacklane drivers undergo a rigorous screening process that includes a background check and an in-person interview.

Furthermore, they receive ongoing training to ensure that they provide the best possible service. Lyft Lux drivers also undergo a screening process, but it isn't as comprehensive as Blacklane's.

In addition, Lyft drivers are not required to receive any additional training once they're hired. As a result, Blacklane drivers are generally more professional and better equipped to provide a top-notch experience.

Lyft, on the other hand, allows drivers to cash out their earnings on a daily basis, whereas Blacklane pays its drivers monthly.

When it comes to luxury ride-hailing services, Blacklane is the clear winner.
